Brainwave entrainment refers to the frequency following response that occurs within the brain in response to the frequency or cyclic speed of a specific audio signal. There are numerous methods of entraining brainwaves but one of the more popular means is referred to as binaural beat frequencies. When two similar but slightly different tones are delivered to the brain, one to the right ear and the other to the left ear, it is believed that the superior olivary nucleus in the temporal lobe of each hemisphere perceives the difference between the two tones and hears in their stead a single tone which is actually the difference between the two (continued).
